SINHG Mission
The purpose of SINHG is to disseminate natural history and cultural history information about Charleston and the South Carolina Low Country to its members through field trips and lectures. In addition, the group provides the opportunity for members to informally share their experiences through two special events. SINHG also encourages education in the Johns Island community by funding local scholarships and environmental projects.
SINHG makes available to its members over 80 excursions during the year. The trips are chosen and organized to enhance our members knowledge and experiences in the environmental, historical and cultural heritage of our area. Each trip is offered to members at a price based on the estimated cost.
One of the other main activities is conducting a series of lectures during the year. There is no charge to members but there is a five dollar donation for non-members. These lectures are planned by one of the standing committees of the group and are given by well qualified experts.
The group conducts two social events during the year. The annual Fish Fry is conducted in the Spring and also serves as our annual membership business meeting. In the Winter, there is a Soup Supper with the meal prepared by attending members. Entertainment or a speaker is provided at the Soup Supper.
SINHG has a totally volunteer board of directors and committee structure and employs no staff.
