Hopsewee Plantation is one of the oldest historic preservation sites open to the public in the United States. The original house is a classic 18th century Colonial plantation house with its porches overlooking the North Santee River and the rice fields beyond. There are also 2 original slave cabins on the grounds. Archeological discoveries at Hopsewee have allowed us to expand the narrative for the lives of the Hopsewee enslaved people. We will have a 45 minute House Tour with a guide and then a 45 minute Museum Tour with a guide. We will then have a Southern Tea served in 3 courses. The River Oak Tearoom is one of eight recommended dining experiences from Wilmington to Charleston. Please allow an hour and a half driving time to the Plantation.
