Join us as we paddle into Chessie Creek (Walterboro, SC), a kayaking destination in the ACE basin that SINHG hasn’t been to in a number of years. Chessie Creek is a little off the beaten path, and is a tributary of the Ashepoo River (the “A” in ACE basin). An area reclaimed by the wilderness after the collapse of the rice industry in SC, the tour will explore abandoned rice irrigation canals and fields, and we should see a great deal of wildlife as Spring brings the lowcountry wild areas to life. An outfitter provides the kayaks, lifejackets, and paddles, so all you have to do is show up. Experience one of the truly scenic areas of the SC lowcountry, at a time of year most friendly to human visitors.
