Mepkin Abbey is a community of Roman Catholic monks established in 1949 on the site of the historic and privately owned Mepkin Plantation located on the Cooper River, north of Charleston. The Trappist monks of Mepkin Abbey devote their lives to prayer, spiritual study, work and hospitality. Our visit includes a guided tour of the Mepkin Abbey Church. We are then free to walk the Nancy Bryan Luce Gardens and visit the Reception Center Gift shop which features mushrooms and garden compost from the Abbey’s farm, and candies, preserves and creamed honey from other Trappist Abbeys. Please allow one hour and forty five minutes driving time to Abbey.
